About the role
The New Roots Farm Coordinator manages day‑to‑day operations of IRC’s urban farm sites, supporting the Urban Farm and Community Gardening Program. This fixed‑term position coordinates farmer activities, training, production, market participation, volunteers, equipment, and infrastructure while ensuring safe and sustainable practices.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain farm equipment, vehicles, tools, irrigation systems, and wash stations, including inventory and repairs.
- Oversee aquaponics greenhouse operations and tilapia production.
- Develop and implement land‑management plans covering soil fertility, inputs, irrigation, apiculture, and composting.
- Coordinate farm planning with staff and participating farmers, ensuring GHP/GAP compliance.
- Support land acquisition, site development, soil remediation, and infrastructure installation.
- Deliver group and one‑on‑one training on sustainable agriculture, crop planning, pest management, irrigation, post‑harvest handling, and food safety.
- Visit partner farms to assess needs, provide technical assistance, and coordinate training resources.
- Track production data, soil health, aquaponics metrics, and farmer sales; maintain accurate participant records.
- Assist the Program Manager with grant reporting, data for donors, and proposal development.
Required profile
- Experience in managing urban or community farms, preferably with aquaponics or greenhouse systems.
- Strong knowledge of sustainable agriculture practices, soil health, and food safety standards.
- Ability to train and support diverse farmer groups and volunteers.
- Excellent organizational and data‑tracking skills.
