Natural Resources/Finance Expert

About the role

The United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs is seeking a Natural Resources/Finance Expert to join a Panel of Experts supporting the Security Council sanctions regime on the Central African Republic. The position is home‑based, with frequent regional and international travel, and will contribute to the preparation of investigative reports, briefings and recommendations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and investigate alleged sanctions violations related to natural resources and finance in the Central African Republic.
• Prepare investigative, mid‑term and final reports for the Sanctions Committee and the Security Council.
• Compile and analyse information on individuals and entities potentially involved in sanctions breaches.
• Deliver briefings and presentations on the sanctions regime and the Panel’s findings.
• Monitor media and social media for relevant developments and cases.
• Contribute to recommendations for improved implementation of Security Council resolutions.

Required profile

• Demonstrated substantive knowledge of sanctions regimes, natural resources financing and related international law.
• Experience conducting investigations, preparing analytical reports and delivering briefings.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi‑expert Panel.
• Willingness to travel frequently on economy‑class flights as per UN guidelines.
