Motor Vehicle Operator – Full Time Day Shift

About the role

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a reliable Motor Vehicle Operator to drive a variety of vehicles—including automobiles, buses, trucks, and ambulances—on a full‑time day shift. The role involves transporting people, equipment, and materials safely across campus and to off‑site locations while maintaining vehicle readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Operate motor vehicles on and off State property, including snow‑plowing duties.
• Map routes, load and unload cargo, and deliver manifests and inventories.
• Monitor vehicle gauges, fluid levels, tire pressures, and perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire replacement, and lamp bulb replacement.
• Refuel vehicles, add coolant, oil, and air as needed.
• Assist maintenance, grounds, or building crews with motorized equipment when required.

Required profile

• Valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle type; CDL Class A, B, C, or General Class D may be required.
• Knowledge of Vehicle and Traffic Law and safe cargo handling procedures.
• Ability to lift and move crates, cartons, boxes, and other cargo.
• Basic understanding of automotive repair and maintenance.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
