Model Performance Software Engineer – Claude Code

About the role

Anthropic is seeking a senior software engineer to lead the technical direction of the Claude Code team. The role bridges research and product, shaping how the company measures and improves the coding capabilities of its AI models.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive technical strategy for evaluation systems, research infrastructure, and internal tooling.
• Architect scalable evaluation frameworks that assess model performance across diverse coding tasks.
• Design and build infrastructure that enables large‑scale experiments and long‑term reliability.
• Identify high‑impact engineering investments and deliver them end‑to‑end.
• Act as a senior technical liaison between product and research, influencing priority and measurement of capabilities.
• Mentor engineers, review designs, and uphold engineering standards across the team.
• Collaborate with research leads to translate ambiguous research questions into robust engineering solutions.
• Own critical systems from architecture through production, ensuring their health and scalability.

Required profile

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including staff or principal‑level roles.
• Proven track record of architecting and owning complex, high‑stakes systems that serve multiple teams.
• Demonstrated ability to set technical direction that shapes team or organization practices.
• Comfortable thriving in fast‑paced, high‑intensity environments with rapid iteration cycles.
