Model & Applications Developer (Process Simulation)

About the role

The Model & Applications team at AVEVA builds and maintains first‑principles mathematical models that power our Process Simulation software. You will work at the intersection of chemical engineering, applied mathematics, and software development to create robust equipment models used across refining, chemicals, renewables and more.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and enhance first‑principles models for steady‑state and dynamic chemical process equipment.
• Implement model equations using Agile practices, version control, pull requests and automated testing.
• Diagnose and resolve complex simulation issues escalated from technical support.
• Collaborate with software developers, thermodynamicists and solver engineers to deliver new simulation capabilities.

Required profile

• B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or equivalent process‑modeling experience.
• Ability to derive systems of equations from first principles (mass, energy, momentum balances).
• Strong foundation in transport phenomena and thermodynamics.
• Familiarity with equation‑oriented or simultaneous‑equation solving approaches.

Required skills

• Experience with process simulation platforms such as AVEVA or Aspen.
• Programming proficiency in Python, C++, C# and use of Git for collaborative development.
• Understanding of solver convergence behavior and equation‑oriented solving.
• Broad knowledge of separations, reaction systems, heat exchange and pressure networks.
