Mobile Equipment Operator – Special Events & Moving

About the role

The Mobile Equipment Operator 2 works on a Special Events and Moving crew that provides logistical and labor support for university departments, special events, and other campus activities. The position is based at the 0100 River Road Annex Building and follows a standard Monday‑Friday schedule with occasional extended hours.

Key responsibilities

• Operate stake‑body or flat‑bed trucks (GVW 10,000‑26,000 lb) to transport materials, equipment, office furnishings, and chemical drums.
• Direct loading and unloading of vehicles, oversee material handling, and perform duties of labor personnel.
• Provide functional supervision to Laborers, Helpers, Mobile Equipment Operator 1s, and Custodians involved in moving services and event setup.
• Operate a boom truck (8,000 lb rating, GVW 22,000 lb) and forklifts/scissor lifts with capacities over 10,000 lb or lift heights of 12 ft.
• Conduct power‑washing tasks as needed.
• Pick up, load, and deliver surplus property to university and state property warehouses, verifying tags and inventory control.
• Recommend rigging methods and assist with load planning for heavy research and laboratory equipment.

Required profile

• Experience operating a variety of university logistics vehicles and equipment.
• Ability to supervise and coordinate labor crews, including student workers.
• Working knowledge of material handling, load rigging, and inventory verification processes.
• Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends when university needs arise.
