Mobile Equipment Operator 2 – Truck Driver Moving Specialist

About the role

The Mobile Equipment Operator 2 works on a Special Events and Moving crew supporting the logistical needs of a large state university. The role involves transporting equipment, furnishings, and materials for departmental moves, special events, and research projects.

Key responsibilities

• Operate stake‑body or flat‑bed trucks (GVW 10,000–26,000 lb) to move office furnishings, chemical drums, and other university assets.
• Direct and oversee loading, unloading, and material handling activities.
• Provide functional supervision to laborers, helpers, Mobile Equipment Operator 1s, and custodial staff.
• Operate a boom truck (8,000‑lb boom, GVW 22,000 lb), forklifts, and scissor lifts for heavy‑load handling.
• Perform power‑washing tasks as required.
• Pick up, load, and deliver surplus property to university and state property warehouses, verifying tags and paperwork.
• Maintain inventory control and ensure accuracy of work performed by labor personnel.

Required profile

• Working knowledge of material handling equipment and heavy‑load moving procedures.
• Ability to supervise student workers and other staff in moving and hauling operations.
• Familiarity with university‑type office furnishings, computer equipment, and laboratory gear.
