Middle East Security Program Researcher

About the role

The Institute for the Study of War is looking for a dedicated researcher to join its Middle East Security Program. You will conduct open‑source research and analysis on geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East and assess their impact on U.S. national security.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and synthesize open‑source information on political and security developments across the Middle East.
• Analyze granular data to identify regional dynamics and their implications for U.S. interests.
• Collaborate with teams studying China and Russia to produce cross‑regional insights.
• Prepare timely written reports, graphical briefings, and oral presentations for policymakers.
• Support long‑term forecasting projects and provide research assistance to colleagues.
• Mentor and supervise research interns, and help edit daily intelligence products.

Required profile

• Self‑motivated and able to work independently on complex research questions.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on accuracy and relevance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for briefing senior audiences.
• Interest in Middle‑East geopolitics and U.S. national security policy.
