Microbiologist

About the role

SGS is seeking a Microbiologist to join its food testing laboratory in Mexico. The successful candidate will work in a fully equipped lab environment, applying a range of analytical and molecular techniques to detect food‑borne pathogens and assess product quality.

Key responsibilities

• Handle and process food samples according to standard operating procedures.
• Perform microbiological analyses using equipment such as analytical balances, homogenizers, incubators, water baths, plate readers and commercial DNA‑based platforms (VIDAS, BAX, GDS, GeneUp, BioRAd).
• Identify microorganisms with the VITEK Microbial Identification System and conduct wet‑chemistry tests for moisture, protein, fat, ash and salt.
• Maintain, calibrate and verify laboratory equipment; report any deficiencies to the supervisor.
• Document all activities, record non‑conformities and support corrective‑action requests.

Required profile

• Residency in Mexico with the ability to obtain a work visa.
• Experience in a food‑testing or microbiology laboratory environment.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow strict SOPs.

Required skills

• Proficiency with VIDAS, BAX, GDS, GeneUp and BioRAd platforms.
• Use of VITEK Microbial Identification System and spectrophotometer.
• Operation of analytical balances, incubators, water baths, plate readers and basic wet‑chemistry equipment.
