Medication Aide Student Trainee (Correctional Facility)

About the role

This student‑trainee program provides basic administrative and clinical support in a correctional medical unit while you complete a 140‑hour online medication aide curriculum. The role blends classroom learning with on‑the‑job training, preparing you for certification as a correctional medication aide.

Key responsibilities

• Attend 4 hours of online medication aide coursework each day and complete 4 hours of on‑site clinical rotations.
• Enter patient data, generate reports, and draft routine correspondence using a computer.
• Perform administrative duties such as filing, mail handling, faxing, and typing.
• Answer phone calls and route them appropriately.
• Assist nurses with patient activities and care as outlined in the plan of care.
• Maintain patient care areas, ensure privacy, and follow internal controls.

Required profile

• Current student interested in healthcare and willing to work in a prison or juvenile detention environment.
• Physical ability to walk, stand, lift objects over 50 lb and perform moderate to extreme physical effort.
• Adequate vision, hearing, speech, and tactile senses to read small print and communicate clearly.
• Capability to work under stress, handle potentially combative patients, and adhere to safety protocols.

Required skills

• Basic computer operation for data entry and report generation.
• Fundamental administrative skills such as filing, mailing, and phone handling.
• Understanding of patient privacy and confidentiality standards.
