About the role

The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) provides essential clerical and front‑desk services within the Veterans Health Administration, collaborating with nurses, health aides and technicians to ensure efficient patient scheduling and care coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Perform receptionist duties: answer multi‑line phones, greet visitors, and manage walk‑in inquiries.
• Schedule, reschedule, and cancel patient appointments using web‑based scheduling and EHR systems.
• Verify patient demographics, insurance information, and update records in the Insurance Capture Buffer (ICB) system.
• Maintain and annotate patient records, scan documents, and transmit information via electronic faxing programs.
• Coordinate with clinic staff to process physician orders and adjust appointment times during staffing conflicts.

Required profile

• Knowledge of basic medical terminology and ability to interpret physician requests.
• Strong communication skills to interact courteously with patients and interdisciplinary team members.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English as required by VA standards.
