About the role
The Medical Records Technician is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and retrieving resident medical records in a nursing center environment. This role ensures that all records comply with state, federal, and facility regulations while supporting quality assurance and timely documentation.
Key responsibilities
- Set up new resident files, both paper and electronic, and maintain the master resident roster.
- Prepare, scan, index, and chart reports, ensuring accurate and timely record updates.
- Retrieve and release medical records according to established procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct chart audits for Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, and Medicare Advantage.
- Track dictation and transcription to complete medical records.
- Assist with ordering and documenting supplies for the facility.
- Secure and retrieve files from external storage providers as needed.
Required profile
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); Associate’s degree preferred.
- 2‑3 years of experience in medical records, with at least six months in a medical records department preferred.
- Demonstrated human relations and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work with physicians, staff, vendors, and customers effectively.
Required skills
- Electronic database management.
- CDM coding knowledge.
- Scanning and indexing of documents.
