Medical Officer

About the role

The Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH) of the United Nations seeks a Medical Officer to plan, coordinate and oversee medical entitlements and operations for UN personnel and eligible dependants. Reporting to the Chief of Health Intelligence and Public Health, the role blends clinical care, occupational health, and administrative leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day clinical services, including walk‑in clinics and emergency care.
• Manage occupational health duties such as sick‑leave review, return‑to‑work planning, and health education.
• Advise administration on medical standards for recruitment, sick leave, evacuations and repatriations.
• Develop and implement policy, business continuity and crisis‑preparedness plans.
• Supervise doctors, nurses and medical administrative staff, ensuring timely case processing and training.
• Collect and analyse health data, producing visual reports to support decision‑making.
• Lead implementation of new electronic medical record features and digital health initiatives.

Required profile

• Professionalism with solid knowledge of clinical, occupational and tropical/travel health.
• Experience in supervising medical teams and coordinating multi‑disciplinary health services.
• Ability to work within United Nations policies and guidelines.
