Medical Malpractice Defense Associate Attorney

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our Medical Malpractice Defense Department in Lake Success. The role offers the chance to work alongside experienced partners on complex defense matters, handling all phases of litigation from discovery to trial.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and draft motions, briefs, pleadings, and other court documents.
• Manage discovery, including taking and defending depositions.
• Travel to various venues across NYC, Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, Orange, and Westchester counties for court appearances.
• Review medical records and related documents to prepare cases for trial.
• Assist with trial preparation and participate in court proceedings as needed.
• Maintain ongoing communication with clients, court staff, and opposing counsel.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and admission to the New York Bar (New Jersey admission a plus).
• 2‑4 years of experience in medical malpractice defense, including depositions, discovery, motion practice, records review, and trial preparation.
• Strong work ethic, self‑starter attitude, and excellent organizational abilities.
• Effective oral communication and the ability to interact professionally with clients, witnesses, and court personnel.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Outlook.
• Skilled in online legal research and electronic billing code systems.
