Medical Laboratory Scientist I - Blood Bank

About the role

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist I to join its Blood Bank team. This position supports critical transfusion services and contributes to high‑quality patient care in a dynamic clinical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform blood bank testing, including ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening, and cross‑matching.
• Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Document test results accurately in the laboratory information system.
• Assist with donor screening, specimen handling, and inventory management.
• Participate in quality assurance, proficiency testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field.
• ASCP certification (or eligibility) and eligibility for Arkansas licensure.
• Ability to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.

Required skills

• Knowledge of blood bank procedures and immunohematology.
• Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation and quality control protocols.
• Understanding of safety and infection control standards.
