Medical Lab Scientist I PRN

About the role

AdventHealth is hiring a Medical Lab Scientist I on a PRN basis in its Fruitland Park facility in Florida. The role covers pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical laboratory tasks, with flexibility in scheduling and possible overtime, weekends and holidays.

Key responsibilities

• Follow safety policies including PPE, handwashing and hazardous chemical handling, and complete required hazardous waste training
• Maintain laboratory equipment and spaces through cleaning and disinfection
• Perform pre-analytical activities: equipment maintenance, function checks, inventory control, supply stocking, specimen collection and biological specimen processing
• Complete tests and analytical procedures accurately according to standard operating procedures
• Report results and provide technical support, and take part in proficiency testing in line with federal, state and institutional rules
• Evaluate new laboratory techniques and procedures, assist with data collection and special projects
• Support education for clinical staff and act as a preceptor for new employees and students
• Offer guidance to technicians and resolve customer service issues within guidelines

Required profile

• Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent training and experience meeting CLIA requirements
• Ability to work independently, direct workflow with minimal supervision and maintain equipment and records
• Ability to teach and train new staff in a medical laboratory setting
• College-level math, computer reasoning and language skills
• Willingness to learn new techniques and procedures

Required skills

• Technical skills for laboratory testing and procedures in the assigned area
• Knowledge of laboratory testing functions and equipment use
• Basic computer skills and Microsoft Office
• Proficiency in a wide variety of laboratory techniques and molecular assays (preferred)
• Verbal and written English; additional languages preferred
