Medical Director, ASPCA Community Veterinary Clinic

About the role

The ASPCA is looking for an experienced veterinarian to serve as Medical Director of its Brooklyn Community Veterinary Clinic. The role leads clinical standards, supervises veterinarians and delivers high-quality, high-volume preventive care and spay/neuter surgery, with no sales pressure, revenue targets, on-call shifts or after-hours emergencies. It sits in a matrix structure, reporting to the on-site Veterinary Practice Director and the Community Medicine Regional Medical Director.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise veterinarians and ensure consistent application of Community Medicine standards, working with regional and nursing leadership
• Set clinical expectations, review performance data and implement corrective actions
• Train and mentor veterinarians in preventive care, common outpatient conditions and high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter techniques
• Train and mentor veterinary students, interns and residents, and build veterinarians' mentoring capability
• Maintain a visible floor presence, make timely decisions on clinic flow and give real-time feedback
• Manage the clinic's DEA certificate, controlled substances storage and reporting
• Practice personally as a primary care physician and spay/neuter surgeon, performing pre-surgery exams and 30-40 surgeries per week

Work conditions

• On-site at the Brooklyn clinic, with occasional flexibility to report to other ASPCA locations in the Greater NYC area
• Monday to Friday daytime hours only, with flexible schedules of four 8-hour days, five 8-hour days or four 10-hour days per week
• Willingness to travel up to 5% of the time

What we offer

• Target hiring salary of $198,000-$210,000 annually, with a possible signing and retention bonus
