Mechanisms Engineer – Spacecraft Mechanisms

About the role

Zachary Piper Solutions is looking for a Mechanisms Engineer to join a federal consulting team in Midland, TX. The role focuses on designing, assembling, integrating, and testing spacecraft mechanisms for a next‑generation satellite constellation. The position is fully onsite with relocation assistance and a meal stipend.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble, integrate, and test spacecraft mechanisms, handling thousands of moving parts per satellite.
• Develop and operate ground support equipment for vibration, shock, and thermal‑vacuum testing.
• Analyze test data, define pass/fail criteria, and support spacecraft integration and launch operations.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians to ensure mechanism performance from design through mission deployment.
• Troubleshoot anomalies, perform root‑cause analysis, and contribute to design improvements.

Required profile

• 2+ years of experience in aerospace, manufacturing, or related engineering fields.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility for occasional weekend and early‑morning work (e.g., 4 AM deployments).

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks and Creo.
• Operation of test equipment including oscilloscopes, thermal‑vacuum chambers, vibration and shock testing rigs.
• Mechanical assembly, integration, and test data analysis.
• Ground support equipment development and operation.

• Salary range $85,000 – $95,000+ per year, based on experience.
