Mechanical Maintenance Technician

About the role

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician supports Texas A&M AgriLife Research facilities in Vernon, TX by performing scheduled maintenance, repairs, and improvements on buildings, irrigation systems, and farm equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and repair infrastructure of buildings, barns, and related facilities.
• Install, operate, replace, repair, and excavate irrigation system components at research sites.
• Conduct grounds maintenance and operate GPS guidance equipment on farm machinery.
• Schedule and execute maintenance for mechanical equipment, farm equipment, and vehicles, traveling between Vernon and Chillicothe as needed.
• Purchase supplies and equipment, ensuring availability for field work.
• Assist in preparing facilities for conferences, field days, and other events.
• Support planting, spraying, cultivation, and harvest activities on research plots and production fields.
• Operate an agency vehicle for travel to various field locations.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent (or combination of education and experience).
• At least one year of related mechanical maintenance experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to multitask and work independently under general supervision.

Required skills

• Mechanical equipment repair and maintenance.
