Mechanical Engineer – Waveguide & Thermal Modeling

About the role

Applied Materials seeks a Mechanical Engineer to develop and analyze mechanical and thermal models for waveguide stacks used in semiconductor equipment. The role combines simulation, experimental validation, and collaboration with backend teams to improve performance.

Key responsibilities

• Simulate and analyze mechanical and thermal behavior of waveguide and waveguide stack structures.
• Collaborate with backend engineers to compare experimental results with simulations and provide improvement insights.
• Design and model mechanical modules such as waveguides, cover glasses, and stacks using 3‑D CAD.
• Set up CAE models, run analyses, interpret data, and calibrate models against test results.
• Document findings, generate technical drawings per ASME Y14.5M, and present results to internal and external customers.
• Follow all safety protocols and handle laboratory parts up to 20 lb.

Required profile

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field with at least 2 years of industry experience.
• Strong engineering and problem‑solving skills, including hands‑on debugging in a lab environment.
• Experience with CAE for mechanical and thermal simulation.
• Fluent in 3‑D CAD (preferably Siemens NX) and in creating drawings to ASME standards.
• Proficiency in Ansys for dynamic, static, and thermal analyses.
• Familiarity with design for function, reliability, manufacturability, and cosmetic requirements.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly in English.
