Mechanical Engineer – Rail Vehicle Systems

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, integration, and validation of mechanical systems for rail vehicle projects in Elmira, NY. The role acts as the primary technical liaison among engineering, manufacturing, quality, procurement, suppliers, and customers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and integration of carbody structures, bogie assemblies, interior systems, and mechanical installations.
• Serve as technical point of contact for manufacturing, quality, and suppliers regarding drawings, specifications, tolerances, and compliance.
• Create, review, and validate 3D models and engineering drawings using CATIA and 3DEXPERIENCE.
• Manage engineering changes through ENOVIA 3DX Change Management.
• Plan and execute verification and validation activities, structural compliance reviews, and design assessments.
• Ensure designs meet customer requirements, contractual specifications, industry regulations, and company standards.
• Participate in stakeholder meetings to provide technical guidance and resolve issues.
• Collaborate with project managers to meet milestones, schedules, and technical requirements.
• Evaluate engineering risks, design changes, and project impacts on cost, schedule, and quality.
• Lead root‑cause investigations and corrective actions for mechanical non‑conformances.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or Associate degree with advanced CATIA/3DEXPERIENCE expertise).
• 3–5 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in rail/rolling stock, transportation equipment, heavy machinery, or complex industrial systems.
• Experience on large‑scale, supplier‑driven projects with long development cycles.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering documentation, and product development processes.
