Mechanical Engineer – Product Development

About the role

Acorn Product Development is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Waltham, MA office. You will work on cutting‑edge electromechanical products, turning concepts into production‑ready designs while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with clients to capture requirements and develop innovative product solutions.
• Create detailed 3‑D models, drawings, and engineering documentation following ASME Y14.5 standards.
• Perform mechanical analyses such as tolerance, FEA, CFD, strength, heat‑transfer, and shock/vibration.
• Coordinate with ID/UX teams to refine designs and with vendors for prototyping, tooling, and production.
• Test and evaluate prototypes, tooling, and first‑article parts; generate technical reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) – Master’s preferred.
• 3+ years of design and engineering analysis experience.
• Proven track record moving a complex electromechanical product from concept to production.
• Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to thrive in fast‑paced product development.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (Creo a plus).
• ASME Y14.5 documentation standards.
• Design of molded, sheet‑metal, and machined components.
• Tolerance analysis.
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
• Strength of materials, heat‑transfer, shock and vibration analysis.
