Mechanical Engineer Principal

About the role

Applied Materials seeks a Mechanical Engineer Principal to lead complex mechanical engineering solutions for semiconductor equipment. You will apply physics, mathematics, and materials science to design tooling, resolve mechanical issues, and support the full product life cycle.

Key responsibilities

• Independently develop and implement concepts for highly complex product engineering solutions, selecting appropriate materials and fabrication processes.
• Lead or execute engineering projects, spearheading mechanical aspects within R&D teams and coordinating with electrical, chemical, and software engineers.
• Perform advanced engineering analysis, including FEA simulation and tolerance analysis on parts and assemblies.
• Specify and oversee engineering tests for mechanical systems, managing technicians during assembly and testing.
• Visit manufacturing and customer sites to identify and resolve first‑time issues and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10‑15 years of experience with deep technical expertise in equipment design, assembly, and part fabrication.
• Experience with semiconductor equipment, especially wet‑processing equipment, is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
