Mechanical Engineer – Precision Machining for Satellite Systems

About the role

SpaceX’s Starlink program is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead the development and production of ultra‑precise machined hardware for satellite RF systems. You will create innovative manufacturing solutions, drive quality improvements, and own tooling and automation projects on demanding timelines.

Key responsibilities

• Own product success for precision‑machined parts with single‑digit micron tolerances.
• Design, develop, and implement shop‑floor automation projects.
• Collaborate with design engineers and machinists to provide DFM feedback.
• Implement process improvements to boost quality, takt time, and yield.
• Prepare capital and facility justifications for large‑scale projects and oversee their execution.
• Develop and maintain quality plans covering dimensional inspection and functional testing.
• Design and fabricate tooling for machining, assembly, and inspection stations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
• At least 1 year of engineering design experience (including internships, student projects, or professional work).
• Willingness to work extended hours/weekends as needed and travel up to 10%.
• Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg sites.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD/PDM systems.
• Hands‑on experience with milling, turning, and CMM inspection.
• Strong demonstrable knowledge of GD&T.
• Basic programming ability in at least one language.
• Experience with the full part life‑cycle from design through verification and production.
