Mechanical Engineer – Oil & Gas Tool Design

About the role

The Mechanical Engineer will design and validate downhole tools for oil and gas applications, including deep‑water field development and carbon capture projects. The role involves translating customer requirements into robust designs, testing prototypes, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Identify requirements and functionality from the Project Charter.
• Design components and assemblies following design standards and perform all necessary safety calculations.
• Collaborate with the simulations team (FEA/CFD) to model tool performance.
• Lead design reviews at various stages of the project.
• Liaise with the Project Manager to source prototype components in a timely manner.
• Work with the testing department to assemble, conduct high‑pressure, high‑temperature tests, disassemble and inspect equipment.
• Apply corrective actions and lessons learned to finalize production designs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in oil and gas tool design, VAVE, and HPHT product development.
• Experience with API standards (11D1, 19OH) and root‑cause analysis.
• U.S. citizenship or green card.

Required skills

• SolidWorks modeling, assembly, drafting, PLM and PDM.
• Value analysis/value engineering (VAVE).
• API standards compliance (11D1, 19OH).
• High‑pressure, high‑temperature test fixture design and prototype testing.
• Collaboration with FEA/CFD simulation teams.
• ERP/MRP systems experience, preferably SAP.
• Knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
