Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Lumafield’s Hardware Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, prototype, and refine the next generation of industrial CT scanning systems. Based in Cambridge, MA, you will work across motion systems, structures, and system integration to create reliable, manufacturable, and user‑friendly hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design for complex assemblies and subsystems, defining milestones to meet quarterly goals.
• Accelerate project timelines by making informed trade‑offs in scope and execution.
• Translate business objectives into technical solutions that can be executed by multiple team members.
• Collaborate with electrical, firmware, systems, and software engineers to ensure cohesive hardware development.
• Identify and remove barriers that impede progress, proactively unblocking yourself and the team.
• Mentor junior engineers, helping them develop their design and prototyping skills.

Required profile

• Strong systems‑thinking ability with experience handling ambiguous, under‑defined problems.
• Hands‑on prototyping expertise and a track record of delivering manufacturable designs.
• Excellent communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
• Ability to break down business goals into clear technical tasks.
