Mechanical Engineer Intern – Summer 2027

About the role

Saronic Technologies is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern for the summer of 2027 to support the design, development, testing, and optimisation of autonomous surface vessels (ASVs). This hands‑on role offers students the chance to apply classroom knowledge to real‑world maritime defence projects.

Key responsibilities

• Support design and development of hardware and software systems for ASVs.
• Analyse hull forms for stability, hydrodynamics and structural integrity.
• Participate in testing and validation of prototypes, including navigation and collision‑avoidance algorithms.
• Conduct computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to evaluate vessel performance.
• Research and implement sensor integration, data processing and machine‑learning solutions.
• Assist with integration of propulsion systems, control surfaces and onboard equipment.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot and refine prototypes.
• Document progress, prepare reports and present findings.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a fast‑paced team.
• Full‑time onsite availability (40 hours/week) from May through August 2027.

Required skills

• Design and simulation tools: Rhino, AutoCAD, SolidWorks.
• Engineering calculations, solid modelling and technical drawing.
• Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation.
• Sensor integration, data processing and machine‑learning application.
• Propulsion‑system and control‑surface integration.
• Arduino and Raspberry Pi programming.
• Use of hand and power tools for prototype fabrication.
