Mechanical Engineer II – Communications

About the role

OTTO Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to develop and support ruggedized communication products such as speaker microphones, PTT devices, tactical headsets, and electromechanical assemblies used in mission‑critical environments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop mechanical design concepts and performance specifications meeting IP, MIL‑STD, drop, vibration, and thermal requirements.
• Create 3D CAD models and detailed drawings using CREO, prototype, test, and iterate designs.
• Perform tolerance stack‑ups, stress modeling, material selection, and statistical analysis of test data.
• Prepare engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, ECNs, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and suppliers to ensure DFM/DFA, cost‑effectiveness, and production readiness.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 2 years of mechanical engineering experience in product development.
• Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with PTC CREO or similar parametric CAD tools.
• Knowledge of plastics, elastomers, die‑cast metals, overmolding, and mechanical integration with PCBs.
• Experience with DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, and mechanical verification testing.

What we offer

• Target base salary $75,000–$90,000 per year, based on experience.
• Profit‑sharing bonus paid semi‑annually.
