Mechanical Engineer – Hardware Design

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our hardware team in Columbia, MD. The role focuses on designing and developing mechanical systems for electronic products, offering hands‑on experience with cross‑functional engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design mechanical parts, enclosures, and assemblies for electronic systems using SolidWorks.
• Create and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings, and Bills of Materials.
• Support thermal and structural evaluations through simulation, analysis, or testing.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers to ensure proper PCB integration, fit, and clearances.
• Assist with prototype builds, lab testing, and design verification activities.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to product improvement discussions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 1–5 years of relevant experience (including internships, co‑ops, or academic projects).
• Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work effectively in a team‑based engineering environment.

Required skills

• SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
• Basic understanding of thermal principles and heat dissipation in electronic systems.
• Experience with thermal or FEA tools (e.g., Ansys, FloTHERM, COMSOL) – preferred.
• Knowledge of injection‑molded part design – preferred.
• Hands‑on prototyping, 3D printing, or lab testing – preferred.
• Familiarity with sheet‑metal, machining, or injection‑molding processes – preferred.
• Understanding of electronics packaging and PCB mechanical integration – preferred.
