Mechanical Design Engineer – Seating

About the role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer in Tesla’s Seat Engineering Department, you will lead the design of vehicle seating components from concept through end‑of‑life, solving problems for existing products and ensuring integration across mechanical, electronic and soft‑goods domains.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full product lifecycle: concept generation, vehicle packaging, detailed design, validation, manufacturing feasibility, production processes and sustainability.
• Balance product attributes such as safety, functionality, comfort, cost, mass, schedule and sustainability.
• Create 3D CAD models (CATIA) and 2D drawings with GD&T, datum and fixation strategies, and own the Bill of Materials.
• Interpret CAE simulation results and apply DRBFM/DFMEA to ensure robust designs.
• Collaborate with Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Procurement and cross‑functional teams to ensure system integration and compatibility.
• Produce technical documentation for official use and communication.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of engineering experience, including at least 1 year on a full‑cycle design project.
• Strong fundamentals in statics, kinematics, dynamics, materials, mechanisms and GD&T.
• Experience with mechatronics: circuit design, PCB design, I/O, controls, embedded programming and Arduino.
• Knowledge of biomechanics, ergonomics and human anatomy.
• Experience designing soft goods and composite structures.
