Mechanical Design Engineer – NASA JETS II Support

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team and support NASA’s future space exploration activities on the JETS II contract. You will work within a collaborative engineering department, applying your design expertise to create high‑performance mechanical systems for human spaceflight and deep‑space missions.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze requirements and develop design solutions for NASA projects.
• Create and validate 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings compliant with ASME Y14.5.
• Perform dimensional tolerance analyses, including thermal effects and GD&T.
• Conduct functional, structural, and thermal analyses and support designs with hand calculations.
• Utilize machine‑shop processes and rapid‑prototyping (3D printing) to produce and test parts.
• Prepare and present design reviews and documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 2‑5 years of experience in mechanical design and CAD modeling.
• Strong attention to detail, ownership of work, and ability to communicate across all organization levels.
• Willingness to travel internationally and work occasional overtime.

Required skills

• 3D CAD modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA).
• ASME Y14.5 drawing standards.
• GD&T and tolerance analysis, including thermal effects.
• Machine‑shop processes and rapid prototyping (3D printing).
• Structural and thermal analysis techniques.
• Hand calculations for fit, function, strength, and thermal response.
