Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Alstom is seeking a full‑time Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Kanona, NY team. You will apply your mechanical engineering expertise to rolling‑stock renovation and overhaul projects, collaborating with operations, maintenance, and design teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop complete technical Scope of Work for renovation and overhaul projects.
• Create and review 3D models, 2D deliverables, and design annotations using Catia V5.
• Conduct stack‑up analysis and ensure compliance with quality, cost, and delivery commitments.
• Prepare and document internal and external mechanical design reviews.
• Design products that meet project requirements, manufacturability, and serviceability.
• Monitor and report on mechanical activity progress, addressing potential issues.
• Provide technical support to production teams and customers.
• Ensure supplier and sub‑contractor design quality.

Required profile

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in Mechanical Design Engineering or 2+ years in railway/railcar products.
• Knowledge of metallic materials, welding, bending, and machining processes.
• Familiarity with welding codes such as AWS.
• Fluent in English; French is a plus.

Required skills

• Catia V5 (minimum 3+ years full‑time or 5,000 hours).
• Experience with PDM/PLM tools (e.g., Enovia‑DMA, 3DCom).
• Understanding of AWS welding codes.
• Stack‑up analysis.
• 3D modelling, design annotations, and bill of materials creation.
