Mechanical Design Engineer (Hybrid) – Indianapolis, IN

About the role

Rolls‑Royce is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Indianapolis team on a hybrid schedule (approximately three days onsite). You will work on flagship gas‑turbine programs for the Defense sector, delivering innovative hardware solutions from concept through test.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and analysis activities for mechanical systems hardware, from requirements capture through program completion.
• Translate system requirements into sub‑system and component hardware specifications and issue requirement documents.
• Develop hardware design concepts, perform trade studies, and create basic CADD models and structural analyses.
• Document functional and physical interfaces with other component engineers.
• Generate hardware bills of material and collaborate to integrate them into the project‑level product structure.
• Support creation of engineering drawings or model‑based definitions for manufacturing.
• Define limits for engine and rig testing, assess test results, and evaluate tested hardware.
• Prepare technical presentations and reports to communicate solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering.
• U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a high‑level security clearance.

Required skills

• Proficiency with computer‑aided design tools, specifically Siemens NX.
• Basic knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and creation of limit stacks.
• Experience in CADD modeling and structural analysis.
