Meat Inspector (Level 1 or 2) – Gilmer County

About the role

The Georgia Department of Agriculture is seeking motivated individuals to join its Meat Inspection team in Gilmer County. As a Meat Inspector (Level 1 or 2) you will conduct antemortem and post‑mortem examinations of red meat, meat products, and processing facilities to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform antemortem inspections to assess animal health before slaughter.
• Conduct post‑mortem examinations of carcasses and meat products.
• Inspect meat processing facilities for sanitary conditions and regulatory compliance.
• Document findings and issue corrective actions or compliance notices.
• Travel within assigned counties (Gilmer and Gordon) as required, using personal transportation.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of relevant experience, or two years of college coursework including 12 semester hours (or 20 quarter hours) in chemistry or life science.
• Willingness to reside in or relocate to the assigned county.
• Ability to pass USDA Inspection Methods training and examinations.
