Material Handling Engineer

About the role

AST SpaceMobile is seeking a Material Handling Engineer to design, implement and continuously improve material flow systems that support satellite manufacturing operations. The role focuses on creating scalable processes, warehouse layouts and inventory strategies that ensure materials are available at the point of use while meeting production schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Design end-to-end material flow processes from supplier receipt through storage, kitting and point-of-use delivery.
• Develop and optimise line-side storage, supermarket layouts, warehouse flow paths and material presentation methods.
• Analyse congestion points, bottlenecks and travel distances to align with takt time and improve production flow.
• Create standard work and material handling procedures that support manufacturing efficiency.
• Support facility layout changes, production line expansions and new manufacturing programs.
• Design and maintain Min-Max, Kanban and pull-based replenishment systems, including safety stock strategies.
• Monitor inventory performance, recommend improvements and balance material availability with inventory investment.
• Design packaging solutions and evaluate storage methods such as racking, flow racks, bins and specialty systems.
• Develop warehouse location standards, improve space utilisation and ensure traceability for aerospace components.

Required profile

• Engineering or related degree with experience in material handling, logistics or manufacturing environments.
• Proven ability to work cross‑functionally with Production Control, Supply Chain, Quality and Engineering teams.
• Strong analytical mindset to identify bottlenecks and optimise material flow.
• Experience supporting facility layout changes and new production programs.
