Manufacturing Process Engineer – Optimus Gears

About the role
Tesla is looking for a Manufacturing Process Engineer to lead the development and launch of the Optimus Gears manufacturing program. You will own the end‑to‑end process for one of several technical tracks, guiding the transition from prototype to full‑scale production.
Key responsibilities
- Fully own, optimize, and scale the operational performance of an assigned technical track (e.g., heat treatment, precision machining, gearbox assembly, end‑of‑line testing, advanced metrology).
- Design, execute, and analyze formal Design of Experiments (DOE) to identify critical process parameters and establish optimized baselines.
- Create process flows, PFMEA, control plans, and standardized work instructions.
- Support equipment specifications, supplier RFQs, and participate in equipment design reviews.
- Assist with installation, FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities.
- Develop process capability, manufacturing acceptance criteria, and drive improvements in safety, quality, throughput, and OEE.
- Address equipment failures, bottlenecks, and quality variances using data‑driven problem‑solving.
Required profile
- Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, Metrology, or equivalent experience.
- Hands‑on expertise launching and optimizing equipment within at least one of the core technical tracks.
- Strong statistical background with proven experience applying DOE, SPC, and data‑driven optimization.
- Experience with PFMEA, control plans, SPC, and Lean Manufacturing.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills, with knowledge of robotics, automation, and machine vision.
