Manufacturing Operational Excellence Specialist (Consultant)

About the role

The Manufacturing Operational Excellence Specialist is a hands‑on advisor who leads the implementation of operational improvement solutions for manufacturers across Illinois. This subject‑matter expert delivers high‑impact, strategic improvements tailored to client needs and ensures sustainable performance gains.

Key responsibilities

• Engage with manufacturers to understand operational challenges and design appropriate Lean‑based solutions.
• Lead client project engagements from planning through implementation and outcome tracking, applying Lean Policy Deployment, Daily Management, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Root Cause Analysis and other continuous‑improvement practices.
• Develop proposals and solution plans with Regional Managers and serve as a trusted technical lead throughout the engagement lifecycle.
• Provide thought leadership through webinars, public speaking and published articles, and support development of third‑party resources and strategic partnerships.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred) with 3+ years of experience in manufacturing operations, continuous improvement or consulting.
• Experience with small to mid‑size manufacturers and a strong background in operational excellence.
• Ability to manage multiple client engagements, adapt to diverse manufacturing sectors and travel across Illinois.

Required skills

• Lean methodologies (Lean Policy Deployment, Lean Daily Management, 5S, Value Stream Mapping).
• Root Cause Analysis and other continuous‑improvement tools.
• Proficiency with CRM systems such as Salesforce.
• Microsoft Office Suite and virtual collaboration platforms.
