Manufacturing Engineer – Optimus Battery Equipment

About the role

Tesla is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to lead the concept development and launch of battery manufacturing equipment for the new Optimus robot. You will take large‑scale manufacturing systems from early concept through equipment launch, optimization, and handover to operations teams.

Key responsibilities

• Ideate and develop concepts for equipment and manufacturing systems.
• Create specifications and manage the RFQ process.
• Validate and optimize processes from prototype builds to full‑volume production.
• Transition low‑volume prototypes to large‑scale production.
• Identify root causes of bottlenecks, equipment malfunctions, and variability using first‑principles thinking.
• Leverage manufacturing data to drive real‑time decisions and improvements.
• Produce detailed documentation for equipment handover.
• Travel domestically and internationally (up to 50%) to support equipment FATs and multiple Tesla sites.

Required profile

• 3+ years of engineering experience or equivalent.
• Experience deploying, qualifying, and validating new processes in a highly automated production environment.
• Proficiency in GD&T and experimental design.
• Design of mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling using CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret production data and solve technical challenges using first principles.
• Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent experience.
