Manufacturing Engineer – Manufacturing Development

About the role

Tesla is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to lead the creation of innovative manufacturing processes for new and existing products. You will design, prototype, and validate automation equipment, providing Design for Manufacturing feedback while guiding products from concept through high‑volume production.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and test manufacturing processes for both existing and new product lines.
• Design automated and semi‑automated tooling to support process validation and prototype builds.
• Provide Design for Manufacturing feedback to Product Design Engineering.
• Manage procurement, construction, and deployment of automated production equipment.
• Coordinate with suppliers during specification, design, buy‑off, and installation of manufacturing equipment.
• Ramp high‑volume manufacturing equipment to meet performance targets before hand‑off to operations.
• Identify and drive continuous‑improvement and cost‑reduction initiatives.
• Generate and maintain machine documentation.
• Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally as required.

Required profile

• Prior internships or full‑time experience in mechanical design of machinery and manufacturing engineering.
• Experience designing and prototyping automation tooling for proof‑of‑concept or low‑volume pilot lines.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.

Required skills

• Mechanical design of machinery and automation equipment.
• Proficiency with 2D/3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD).
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as fastening, press joining, induction heating, dispensing, leak testing, soldering, wire preparation, injection molding, machine vision, and part feeding.
• Experience with automation systems, robotics, PLCs, and data‑collection systems.
