Manufacturing Engineer – Battery Manufacturing for Optimus

About the role

Tesla is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to lead the development and launch of battery manufacturing equipment for the Optimus robot. You will take large‑scale manufacturing systems from concept through equipment launch, optimization, and handover to operations teams.

Key responsibilities

• Ideate and design cutting‑edge equipment and manufacturing systems for high‑volume battery production.
• Deploy, validate, and optimize robust, automated manufacturing equipment and processes.
• Lead cross‑functional teams, using data‑driven decision making and engineering first principles.
• Apply manufacturing techniques such as mechanical joining, dispensing, electrical interconnection, vision inspection, leak testing, electrical testing, and automated material handling.
• Ramp transient processes to meet steady‑state production targets, improving cycle time, availability, and yield.

Required profile

• 3+ years of engineering experience in high‑volume, automated production environments.
• Proven success deploying, qualifying, and validating new manufacturing processes.
• Experience launching large, complex, highly automated manufacturing lines.
• Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Physics, Materials Science, or equivalent.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

• Experimental design principles.
• Line balancing and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
• Process optimization.
• Mechanical joining, dispensing, electrical interconnection.
• Vision inspection, leak testing, electrical testing.
• Automated material handling.
