Job description
About the role
Reliable Safety & Flow Corporation is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer focused on automation to help drive the next stage of automation on its production floor. The role goes beyond reactive troubleshooting: you will identify automation opportunities, build the business case and lead projects through to a running cell, either by managing an external integrator or by leading an internal team. The environment is dynamic and fast-paced.
Key responsibilities
- Lead capital projects from concept through installation and startup, covering scope, budget, schedule and status reporting to management.
- Identify automation and semi-automation opportunities and prepare cost/benefit and ROI justifications.
- Manage external integrators and vendors, write specifications, evaluate quotes, run design reviews and FAT/SAT.
- Lead internal teams in designing, building, programming and commissioning automated cells, fixtures and end-of-arm tooling (EOAT).
- Apply flexible automation such as Universal Robots UR5 collaborative robots, vision and quick-change tooling, and support material handling automation including AGV/AMR projects.
- Hand over new equipment with operator and maintenance training, documentation and a spare parts plan.
- Troubleshoot CNC machines, robotic cells and other automated systems, diagnose PLC/HMI logic, sensors, safety circuits and robot faults, and partner with maintenance on preventive maintenance.
- Help select a machine monitoring platform, connect CNC machines, robots and PLC equipment, retrofit older tapping machines with sensors or I/O, set up downtime reason codes and build dashboards.
- Use real-time machine data to find bottlenecks and reduce downtime, track downtime, scrap, OEE and cycle time, and plan layouts and workflows to improve efficiency.
- Work with Quality on process improvements and error-proofing, and ensure equipment meets OSHA, machine safety and other regulatory requirements.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, mechatronics or a related engineering field.
- 3-5+ years of experience with CNC, robotics and automated systems.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLCs and HMIs.
- Experience leading at least one automation or capital project from concept through launch, with an integrator or an internal team.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Project management skills, including scope, schedule, budget and vendor management.
Required skills
- Programming and troubleshooting collaborative robots, especially Universal Robots UR5, and industrial robots such as FANUC and ABB.
- Knowledge of grippers, EOAT, pneumatics, sensors and machine safety systems.
- Preferred: machine monitoring/OEE platforms such as MachineMetrics or Ignition, machine vision (Cognex, Keyence), SolidWorks, Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma training, AGV/AMR experience, and a high-mix manufacturing background.
