About the role
Our client, a large local manufacturing company, is seeking a hands‑on Manufacturing Controller to lead and strengthen the accounting and finance function. The role will oversee financial reporting, cost accounting, inventory controls, budgeting and internal controls while supporting the company’s growth.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting and finance operations for a manufacturing business.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations and month‑end / year‑end close.
- Lead cost accounting activities including inventory, work‑in‑process, finished goods, overhead, standard costing and variance analysis.
- Maintain and improve inventory control processes, valuation and reporting.
- Analyze production costs, margins, operating performance and manufacturing variances.
- Partner with operations, supply chain and senior leadership to provide financial insight.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow reporting and financial planning.
- Strengthen internal controls over inventory, AP, AR, fixed assets and payroll.
- Support audit, tax, compliance and other corporate reporting needs.
- Evaluate and improve accounting systems and reporting tools; assist with ERP implementation projects.
- Lead, mentor and develop accounting team members.
- Travel 30‑50% to out‑of‑state manufacturing facilities to support plant operations and coordination.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (required).
- CPA or CMA certification (preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 5 years in plant manufacturing accounting.
- Strong cost accounting background covering inventory, COGS, overhead, WIP, standard costing and variance analysis.
- Solid understanding of GAAP, internal controls and month‑end close processes.
- Proven analytical, communication and leadership abilities.
Required skills
- ERP/accounting systems such as QuickBooks, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP or Oracle.
- Advanced Excel for financial reporting and analysis.
- Cost accounting techniques and inventory management.
- GAAP compliance and internal control frameworks.
- Budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow reporting.
