Manual Machinist (Tool & Die)

About the role

The Tool and Die Maker fabricates, maintains, repairs, polishes, and sets up precision tooling used in aluminum can manufacturing. This role ensures body‑maker tooling such as punches, redraw dies, ironing dies and domers meet exact specifications to support product quality and equipment performance.

Key responsibilities

• Manufacture, repair, rebuild and maintain precision tooling for can‑making operations.
• Polish and lap carbide and steel tooling surfaces to required finish specifications.
• Set up and adjust body‑maker tooling, including punches, redraw dies, ironing dies and doming tools.
• Inspect tooling for wear, damage, dimensional accuracy and surface finish using precision measuring instruments.
• Operate grinders, lathes, mills, polishers and other precision equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance on tooling and related equipment and document all activities.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Technical training, apprenticeship or equivalent experience in Tool and Die Making, Precision Machining or Manufacturing Technology.
• Experience with precision grinding, polishing, lapping and machining operations.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and geometric tolerances.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills; welding experience preferred.
