Managing Attorney – Immigration Services

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks a Managing Attorney to lead its immigration legal services in New York. You will oversee the Pro Se Assistance Program and the broader low‑cost immigration services program, ensuring high‑quality representation for refugees, asylum seekers, and other clients navigating U.S. immigration processes.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise a team of attorneys and DOJ‑accredited representatives, providing mentorship, performance feedback, and professional development.
• Develop and enforce intake procedures, case acceptance policies, and caseload limits.
• Provide direct legal representation on complex USCIS matters while maintaining a limited personal caseload.
• Collaborate with community partners, IRC leadership, and the Legal Services Technical Unit to align program strategy.
• Lead grant cycle activities, including opening, monitoring, evaluation, and closing of funding agreements.
• Strategize funding sustainability and contribute to program design and expansion.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor (JD) and admission to practice law in the United States.
• Extensive experience in U.S. immigration law, including asylum, family reunification, adjustment of status, and naturalization.
• Proven leadership experience managing legal teams in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a commitment to humanitarian values.
