Manager, Platform Engineering - Big Data Engineering

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Manager for Platform Engineering focused on Big Data Engineering. The role combines hands‑on technical leadership with people‑management responsibilities, guiding a team that designs, builds, and operates secure, scalable, and resilient platform infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of cloud infrastructure solutions that meet scalability, resilience, security, and cost‑efficiency goals.
• Oversee development and operation of container platforms and orchestration environments such as Kubernetes.
• Establish and mature CI/CD pipelines and engineering workflows to enable high‑quality software delivery.
• Drive adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to automate provisioning and management of infrastructure.
• Champion automation to reduce manual processes and improve reliability.
• Guide teams in building and operating distributed systems and microservices architectures, ensuring fault tolerance and performance.
• Oversee monitoring, observability, and operational health of platform services.
• Provide technical direction for software engineering practices, ensuring performance, maintainability, and reliability.
• Manage core IT infrastructure components (compute, storage, networking) and operating systems to keep environments stable and aligned with enterprise standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading platform engineering teams in a large‑scale, cloud‑focused environment.
• Strong people‑management skills with the ability to develop high‑performing, collaborative teams.
• Deep understanding of modern engineering practices such as IaC, CI/CD, and container orchestration.
• Experience designing and operating distributed, microservices‑based systems.
• Ability to partner with application teams to align platform capabilities with development needs.
