Manager, PCBA Manufacturing

About the role

Impulse Space is looking for a Manager, PCBA Manufacturing to lead and mentor a team of PCBA manufacturing engineers, supervisors and technicians. The manager owns PCBA manufacturing across the company for all its products, and their leadership directly affects the performance and reliability of vehicles sent into orbit. Pay is commensurate with experience.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit and lead a team of PCBA manufacturing engineers, supervisors and technicians, including mentorship and team development.
• Guide manufacturing engineers in writing work instructions for board assembly, solder rework, inspection and acceptance testing.
• Implement processes that streamline manufacturing while improving rate, quality and reliability.
• Set up and run an SMT line supporting development and production.
• Build acceptance testing (ATP) capability for PCBAs, including functional and environmental testing.
• Collaborate with design engineers on manufacturability and give input in PDR and CDR reviews.
• Optimize production rate, yield and cost of PCBA production and ensure timely delivery to box-level assembly.
• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies and best practices in PCBA manufacturing.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
• 6+ years of demonstrated PCBA manufacturing experience, preferably in a high-reliability environment.
• 3+ years of experience in a people management role.
• Strong track record of developing and mentoring people.
• Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and materials used in PCBA manufacturing.

Preferred skills and experience

• MS/PhD in Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
• 6+ years of PCBA manufacturing for space applications.
• Experience setting up and running an SMT line.
• PCBA inspection techniques such as X-ray/CT, AOI and flying probe.
• Functional testing (software and firmware) and environmental testing for space applications (thermal cycling, vibration, thermal vacuum).

• Pay of $140,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on role, level, location and market data.
