Manager, Laboratory, Radiation, and Process Safety

About the role

The Laboratory, Radiation, and Process Safety Manager leads safety programs for the Texas A&M University System, ensuring compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations. Reporting to senior leadership, the manager develops, implements and maintains laboratory, radiation and process safety policies, provides technical guidance, and supports member institutions across the system.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and standardize laboratory, radiation and process safety programs, guidance, templates and best practices.
• Assist member institutions in creating and improving safety programs and obtaining necessary licenses and registrations for radioactive materials, radiation‑producing devices and lasers.
• Review building and renovation projects for laboratory safety requirements and operational needs.
• Conduct compliance reviews, follow‑up activities and safety audits.
• Provide training on laboratory, radiation, chemical, biological, process and engineering safety topics.
• Monitor applicable laws, regulations and emerging safety issues.
• Support consistent, compliant and effective safety practices across all system campuses.

Required profile

• Experience managing laboratory, radiation and/or process safety programs in a higher‑education or research environment.
• Strong knowledge of relevant regulations (OSHA, EPA, NRC, state radiation statutes).
• Ability to develop safety policies, training materials and technical guidance.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with diverse institutional stakeholders.
• Proven ability to conduct compliance reviews and support safety‑related licensing processes.
