Maintenance Technician I – Building Engineer

About the role

The Maintenance Technician I (Building Engineer) is responsible for the upkeep and repair of mechanical equipment, building systems, and facilities at Sentral’s San Diego community. The role involves routine preventive maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and ensuring a safe, comfortable environment for residents and guests.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine building maintenance including painting, minor electrical repairs, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC system upkeep.
• Conduct preventative maintenance, safety inspections, and respond to emergency maintenance calls.
• Diagnose mechanical problems, repair machines, equipment, or structures, and maintain clean interior and exterior building areas.
• Maintain inventory of supplies, coordinate with contracted vendors, and work on a rotating on‑call schedule, including weekends.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; proven maintenance experience or related technical degree.
• CPO and HVAC certifications are required; additional knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems is a plus.
• Ability to work independently, follow supervisor instructions, and be available for on‑call duties.

Required skills

• Use of hand and power tools, including hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches.
• Blueprint and repair‑manual reading.
• Precision measuring instruments and electronic testing devices.
• Disassembly and reassembly of machines and equipment.
