Maintenance Mechanic – Underground Mining Equipment

About the role

Compass Minerals is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to keep its underground salt‑mine equipment and surface plant assets operating safely and efficiently. The role involves hands‑on repair, installation, and preventive maintenance of a wide range of mobile and stationary mining equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Lubricate and perform routine maintenance on assigned plant and shop equipment.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mobile mining equipment such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, Genie, Joy, Oldenburg, and Fletcher units.
• Maintain stationary infrastructure including conveyors, crushers, feeders, and screens.
• Cut plates, bolts, and perform basic welding tasks using cutting torches.
• Read and interpret hydraulic, electrical schematics and parts manuals to resolve issues.
• Report equipment condition and potential problems to supervisors promptly.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent, or completion of an apprenticeship/technical trade program.
• Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience in an industrial or mining environment.
• Basic knowledge of mobile electrical systems and hydraulic hose components.
