Maintenance Mechanic – Intermediate or Senior

About the role

The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond is seeking an experienced Maintenance Mechanic to join its facilities team. The position can be filled at either an intermediate or senior level, depending on the candidate’s experience. You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing the building’s structure and equipment to ensure a safe, functional environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform moderately complex troubleshooting and repairs on electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
• Install, repair, and maintain plumbing fixtures and pipework for water distribution and wastewater disposal.
• Conduct scheduled inspections, preventive maintenance, and service of multi‑component equipment.
• Assist with construction, installation, and furnishing projects, including carpentry, painting, and furniture installation.
• Monitor equipment operation, adjust processes to optimize availability and performance.
• Support room setups, snow/ice removal, and inclement‑weather clean‑up.
• Collaborate with other tradespeople on complex repairs while adhering to OSHA and safety standards.

Required profile

• Senior level: 5‑9+ years of relevant experience with a Journeyman certification.
• Intermediate level: 3‑5+ years of relevant experience with a Journeyman certification.
• High school diploma or GED required.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and hydraulic components.
• Plumbing installation and repair.
• HVAC and fire‑protection system maintenance.
• Carpentry, painting, and furniture installation.
• Proficiency with hand tools, electric meters, and material‑handling equipment.
